01HSN codes (goods)

HSN stands for Harmonized System of Nomenclature, an international system for classifying goods. India uses up to 8 digits. The first 2 digits are the chapter, and more digits add detail.

02SAC codes (services)

SAC means Services Accounting Code. SAC codes for services under GST start with 99; for example, many IT services fall under 9983.

03How many digits to show

Previous year turnoverDigits on B2B invoices
Up to ₹5 croreAt least 4
Above ₹5 croreAt least 6

Based on rules at the time of writing. Confirm the current requirement on the GST portal or with your CA.

04How to find your code

  1. Search the HSN/SAC lookup on the official GST portal.
  2. Check the codes your suppliers use for the same item.
  3. When unsure between two codes, ask your CA; the wrong code can mean the wrong tax rate.

05Store it once

Add the code to each product in SuperForge's catalogue and it appears on every quote and invoice automatically.
